Setting up your account
- cd to your home directory.
- Execute the command
"tar xvf /usr/groupS/lib/new_user/nv3-user.tar".
This will create a directory called nv3 in your home directory.
Some other necessary files and directories will be placed in
the nv3 directory.
- cd to the nv3 directory.
- Edit the file called "startup":
- set the DATPATH variable to point to the directory or
directories where your data (.nv and .mat) files are.
- set the WINDIR variable to point to the directory or
directories where your window (.win) and session (.ses)
files will be located. The defaults should be ok for
people who are working alone on a project. Note that
write permission is required for the first directory on
the list since that is where new window files will be
saved. People coming from version 2.1 may want to copy
their files from nmrview/windows to nv3/windows. The new
version of rdwin will read files created with the old
version, but the new files may not be backwardly compatible.
- Decide whether you want to confirm overwriting of .win files,
etc. and set the NO_OVERWRITE variable as appropriate.
- Look at and/or print out the usr/keys.tcl file to see what shortcut
keys are available in spectral windows. Change anything that you
don't like.
- Look at the online
documentation
to get the basics of how nv3 works (people familiar with version
2.1 may want to skip this).
- People migrating from version 2.1 should be fairly comfortable
with nv3. Most of the commands used locally have either been
ported to nv3 or have built-in equivalents now.
- People who have never used NMRView before may want to talk to
someone who has used nv3.
