Viewing pdf files with Adobe Acroread
The Easy Way
Execute the command "cp /usr/local/lib/netscape/mailcap ~/.mailcap" and
restart Netscape. Alternatively, do the first three items under the
hard way section, wait until netscape finishes re-reading your .mailcap
file, then click the OK buttons. This may not work with file types
other than pdf files.
The Hard Way
The instructions below are a step-by-step method to setup Netscape
Navigator 4.x to automatially start Adobe Acrobat Reader (acroread)
when a link to a .pdf file is chosen.
- From the menus choose Edit -> Preferences...
- Click on the triangle next to Navigator
- Choose Applications from the expanded Navigator list.
- Highlight "Portable Document Format" in the Description
field.
- Choose the Edit... button.
- In the "Handled By" region, pick Application and fill in
the blank with '/usr/local/bin/acroread "%s"' (minus the
single quotes).
- Choose OK in all of the dialog boxes.
- Click on the link to the pdf file again.
