NMRView version 1 was written by Bruce A. Johnson and Richard A. Blevins and made use of the XView toolkit for its graphical interface. This version ran on Sun and IBM RS/6000 workstations. Version 2 was written by BAJ and RAB. This version used the Motif toolkit for its graphical user interface, and ran on Sun, IBM RS/6000 and SGI workstations. The latest version, 3, has been rewritten by BAJ to incorporate the Tk toolkit and a subset of the Meschach Library of vector and matrix routines. This version runs on Sun, IBM RS/6000, and SGI workstations. NMRView also runs on Power Macintoshs as a native application and it runs with the MachTen operating system from Tenon Intersystems.
NMRView is described in the article NMRView: A computer program for the visualization and analysis of NMR data (1994) B. A. Johnson and R. A. Blevins, J. Biomolecular NMR 4:603-614.. This reference should be cited in manuscripts describing research that used NMRView.
NMRView incorporates computer code from several sources. In particular:
The Tcl and TK toolkits which were developed at the University of California at Berkeley, and Sun Microsystems. Information on Tcl and Tk can be found at
The database routines include software developed by the University of California at Berkeley and its contributors. The hashing package used is described in A New Hashing Package for UNIX, M. Seltzer and O. Yigit.,in the proceedings of the Usenix Conference, Winter 1991.
The vector/matrix routines in NMRView include software from the Meschach Library, Version 1.2b. Meschach was developed by David Stewart and Zbigniew Leyk at the Australian National University. Information on Meschach is obtainable at: ftp://ftpmaths.anu.edu.au/pub/meschach/meschach.html .
